Ice doesn't have to be 'just ice':
3 proven ways I have leveraged creativity and innovation to gain a competitive advantage in a commodity driven industry.
My biggest accomplishment. Ran this as my side business in Connecticut for 15+ years. Created my own market and built a loyal customer following. Attempted to keep it going when I moved to Colorado but partnered with the wrong person and was forced to kill the project. Click the logo to view the website I built.

'Cooler Fuel' - This was the result of my final project in college. It was entitled "Product differentiation in the ice industry". Essentially it was a product made from block ice and was crushed into large chunks strictly intended to keep bottles and cans cold in coolers. It lasted twice as long as standard ice cubes. I repackaged it into 15lb bags to make it more commercially viable to retailers. We sold to local chains of supermarkets and liquor stores that carried it for 10 years.

I ran a test market for these hand cut square ice cubes. I bagged up each one up and sold them for $1 a piece to a local fancy cocktail bar. Although I got requests to make them for 5 other bars in Connecticut, they were way to tedious to produce myself.

I never really told anyone the name I came up with for the product, I just used the images to speak for themselves. It was my own inside joke for the most part.
